Rabbi’s Message

Dear Members,

As the warmer weather approaches, many people begin thinking of their well deserved summer vacations. However just as one should never take a vacation from being a Jew, your synagogue too does not “take a vacation” either.

Although many of our educational programs are winding down, our synagogue is open for prayer every day of the week.   During the hopefully pleasant days of summer, please do not neglect to come pray and help make the minyan at our brief Sunday through Thursday evening service (8:00–8:15 PM) and of course make every effort too, to attend our Shabbat services, Friday nights at 8:00 PM and Shabbat morning at 9:00 AM.

We pride ourselves on being available to the community 365 days a year, but the community likewise must support our endeavors as well.

Secondly, our next book discussion program will be held on Tuesday, June 15th at 8:15 PM.  The book to be discussed is The Gifts of the Jews: How a Tribe of Desert Nomads Changed the Way Everyone Thinks and Feels, by Thomas Cahill (1997, Doubleday Publishing). Although the title may sound imposing, the book is a very easy and very stimulating read.

In his book, Cahill explores and explains how much civilization owes our ancestors for creating the basis for so much thought and theology, the civil liberties that we enjoy.

I strongly suggest that you put this book on your reading list, as it will make you feel ever more proud to be part of the Jewish people.

Finally, my family and I wish all of our members and friends a very safe and enjoyable summer.

B’Shalom

Rabbi Michael Klein
